FIRETRUCKFLOAT FOUNDATION

Please help keep the firetruckfloat tradition alive.

The domino effect of adjustable rate home loans being made to people who could not afford them has hit the Lower Greenville St Patrick’s Day Parade. Several factors are working against us this year. First, the entry fee for the parade went up to $400 instead of the usual $100. Second, the weather has taken a toll on the Leprechaun-Trailer and it will have to be re-decorated this year. Third, cost of gas (because the Leprechaun-Traler is a 2+ hour drive each way). All told including refreshments, bathroom supplies and throwing beads the costs will exceed $2000 this year. AND this does not include the costs of repairing the firetruck for next year.

Long story short, we find it necessary this year to collect $50 per person to ride on the float. Although we are requesting $50 per person any amount above that will be accepted (With 30 people paying this amount we will not cover the entire cost but it still helps!) We must maintain a MAXIMUM of 30 riders this year, so the first 30 people to pay will get to ride… after that, people will have to walk. Anyone VOLUNTEERING to walk/dance alongside the float with us is welcome to only pay $30.

PROMISE: If, by chance, we collect MORE than what it costs this year… all funds will be put towards reviving the FIRETRUCK for next years parade. We are NOT trying to profit off of this, ANY and ALL money donated will ONLY be used for the expenses of the float. If any money is left over, it will be used to REDUCE the cost of next year’s event. Please help keep firetruckfloat alive by make your donation.

Thank you for understand and support.
Firetruckfloat Team

PS. If cost is an issue, please email me
dave@firetruckfloat.com and we can talk about a “WORK” donation… such as a volunteer to clean the bathroom on the float after the parade.

2010 - The star is out but the parade is on

The bad news is... the firetruck will not be available this year due to technical difficulties. If you had not already heard, the firetruck caught on fire last year on it's way back to the ranch and had to be towed to it's current resting spot. Despite our best efforts (Rex and Simon)... between the weather, the distance to where the firetruck is stored and the cost of parts we simply cannot get it going before the parade starts. So this year we will be pulling the "Leprechaun Float" behind a different... yet to be announced... vehicle.

The GOOD news... the parade will still be fun without the firetruck because we have the trailer complete with leprechaun. (Which we will need help decorating before the parade, last year we had a lot of fun doing this.)

The SKINNY...

PARADE DAY INSTRUCTIONS... Please download the pdf.

http://www.firetruckfloat.com/2009%20firetruckfloat%20Instructions.pdf

The short version is...

Either be at Dave's house by 7:30 or 7:45 OR be at Sam's no later than 10:30.

The firetruck will be leaving Dave's at 8:00 am and arriving at Sam's about 8:15.

We will be parked there partying and dancing until the parade leaves at 11:00 am.

Help offset the carbon emissions of the firetruck by taking the DART Rail to the park lane station and walking across the street to the Sam's Parking lot.

http://www.dart.org/riding/stations/parklanestation.asp

The parade will take until 12:30 or 1:00 and we will proceed to the after party at Amy's.

Download and follow the instructions to participate.

We are asking for a $30 donation (any amount will be helpful) this year to help offset the ever-rising costs of putting this event on. Help keep the firetruck alive!

See you Saturday! Or before if you want to help pomp in the rain.

The FIRETRUCK has landed

We can now put the firetruck in firetruckfloat.com

Stay tuned for more details.

The Show Must Go On!

Look for an update LATER TODAY about EXACT times and places to be on Saturday morning to participate.

Despite the rain...

The preparation continues.

Old Fashion POMP Party - WEDNESDAY

That's right, we are planning an event on Wednesday (the 11th) starting at 6PM and ending when the decorating supplies (and beer) are gone. Everyone who can make it ,even for a short time, will be able to help us with the final decorations and preparation.

4821 Abrams Road
Dallas, TX 75214
(Park on University or Chesley because the float will be in the driveway and alley)

The 'behind-the-scenes' construction is nearly complete but we will be working throughout the week making final preparations.

The final times and staging areas will be sent to me via email this week and I will post on this site the agenda, associated maps and info as soon they are available. (Probably tomorrow or Wednesday)

After Party Update

A new location for the afterparty has been graciously offered by the notorious Lott Sisters...

We will be joining the St. Patty's Bash as the Giant Leprechaun will be directing the firetruck to 5705 Kenwood Avenue, Dallas, TX 75206.

You might notice that this is suspiciously close to the location of the after-party of old… it is, just about 1 block west of the old Kenwood House (closer to Greenville, Avenue). If you miss the parade, you can come here afterwards to join the festivities.

Keep watching this site for more details about Parade Day and how to participate.

Major Progress

Thing are really shaping up, we are all getting fired up.

It got too dark to take any more pictures tonight but we made serious headway. Fully built walls of "hot box", constructed dj stand, painted, and more. It got too dark to take final progress picture for today.

Another Day on the Way

Nails, Wood & Paint = more progress. Sunday we will work again (time to start building the "decorative" structures)

Wednesday, February 11, 2009

We have started working on the latest addition to the parade equipment... a "real" float. The firetruck will remain the staple vehicle but this year a St. Pats themed float will be pulled. There are rumors of a giant motorized leprechaun and a rolling DJ booth.
